What we loved:

The section on metrics was extra actionable, with calculations and industry benchmarks. 

What we didn't love:

The first two chapters on digital marketing skills and digital marketing trends offered very little value and questionable insights.

Summary:

This free business book felt valuable upon first glance, but when we dug a little deeper, it fell short in several areas, and then when we dug even deeper it got valuable again (kind of).

The listicle format of this tactical marketing ebook definitely made the information more digestible, but also made the book feel less valuable. Ten digital marketing skills you need to succeed, top 3 trends in digital marketing—the chapter titles of this free ebook made it feel like a few strung-together blog posts instead of a deep-dive content piece. 

Speaking of content, some of the information presented in this free guide is questionable. We raised eyebrows at the notion that “newsjacking” belongs alongside SEO and “analytics marketing skills” (whatever those are) as a top digital marketing skill. And the complete guide to marketing metrics doesn’t even mention anything related to email marketing.

There are a handful of helpful tidbits scattered throughout in the form of company/case study references, and as we said already the metrics section is wonderfully actionable (although missing key metrics). In fact, this freebie would have been so much better if it was just a guide to marketing metrics with the same page count.
