How long should your new employee onboarding take? For any industry (like staffing) rife with employee turnover and trying to deal with it: less than four months. Preferably less than one month. When you're building an employee training program, you generally don't want it to last longer than the employment does, after all. This free resource for staffing professionals (but useful for hiring managers and in-house recruiters, too!) lays out an onboarding framework that will cut down onboarding time and help employees ramp-up faster.

you should read this ebook if...

  • You are a staffing professional especially, or working hiring/recruiting in-house
  • Your onboarding process is inefficient and it takes too long before new hires are fully trained
  • You don't have a formal onboarding and training program and would like to learn basic best practices as you lay plans for it

about this ebook

The time it takes for your new recruiter or salesperson to be productive depends on how long they're going through onboarding. But employee ramp-up that's quick still needs to be effective, providing your new hire with the tools to succeed. So create an onboarding program built on feedback, successful mentorship, and a formal job training timeline. Go over the best practices for each role and design protocols they can follow when confronted with common obstacles. Save time for evaluations and check-ins, but make sure there's very little time between learning new skills and getting a chance to enforce them through action. And finally, build in a quick win with tasks that they can be productive with right away.

What we loved:

The troubleshooting checklists. We love ourselves a good checklist, but these ones are especially helpful because they help rule out common mistakes.

What we didn't love:

The missing table of contents isn’t the only thing that makes this book hard to read. The overarching information hierarchy doesn't quite make sense and the valuable insights are scattered throughout the text.

Summary:

This free ebook for staffing professionals was a little hard to navigate, but the key takeaways at the end of each section made it more skimmable. Overall, a worthwhile download — we have a hard time fully resisting anything that backs up its points with so much data.
