A collaborative approach to budgeting puts an end to top down financial plans. Instead, the employees who are affected by the business’ budget have a say in the planning. Not only are they in the best position to gage their own forecast, but this helps build employee engagement and empowerment across an organization. It brings communication, team work, and accountability to the forefront while pooling collective expertise with budgeting best practices.

What we loved:

The approach the book takes to employee engagement and budgeting. It’s not a connection you hear everyday, but this free ebook is successful in making it a relevant one.

What we didn't love:

The design of this free ebook on budgeting was cringeworthy. As marketers and designers, we know our standards are a little high, but when you can’t read the text because there’s clipart slapped over it, that’s a problem even the least visually-inclined reader shouldn’t overlook.

Summary:

The first question posed in this free ebook got us hooked: what does budgeting have to do with employee engagement? The ebook posits collaborative budgeting as the solution to some employee discontent. It doesn’t go very in-depth into the concept (which we wish it did), but it makes a strong enough case that we want to learn more about collaborative budgeting. Also, it’s well-referenced which is always a good thing
